District Information

LOCATION
The Wudinna District Council is located on Central Eyre Peninsula, South Australia. It encompasses the townships of Warramboo, Kyancutta, Wudinna, Yaninee and Minnipa. The district's main service centre is Wudinna. Wudinna is located on the Eyre Highway, 693km east of the South Australian/Western Australian border and 580km west of Adelaide. DISTRICT AREA
The total area of the district covers 5,393.8 square kilometres.

POPULATION
In 2016 the population of the district was at 1,127 (ABS Statistics).

INDUSTRY
The District's prime source of income is agriculture related, predominantly cereal cropping. Sheep and beef cattle are also farmed.
Tourism, small business and mining are evolving as potential alternative industries for the area.

MEDIA AND COMMUNICATIONS
Television entertainment is provided through Imparja, Southern Cross Darwin, SBS and ABC television stations. Most of the popular television shows from channels 7, 9 and 10 are available on these stations. Radio stations in the area include Triple J, Regional ABC, 5CC and Flow FM.

Most of the district area has mobile phone coverage, including the townships of Wudinna and Minnipa, however, it is only available to Next G mobile phones.

The local newspaper is the West Coast Sentinel which covers an area encompassing the townships of Ceduna, Streaky Bay, Elliston and Wudinna. However, the Eyre Peninsula Tribune, Port Lincoln Times, Advertiser, Australian and Sunday Mail newspapers are also delivered to the area. 'The Granite' newsletter is a monthly publication produced by the Wudinna & Districts Telecentre and distributed free to all residents of the Wudinna & Districts area.

The Emergency Services Complex was built in 1984. It is situated on Richards Avenue, Wudinna, and serves as a home for the Wudinna brigades of the Country Fire Service, State Emergency Service, and the Wudinna divisions of St John Ambulance Australia.
