HISTORY
Karcultaby Area School was opened in 1977. The two small schools in Minnipa and Poochera were closed to allow the new school to be created. The Library Resource Centre, seen as the hub of the school, was situated centrally and resources from both the Minnipa and Poochera schools were transferred to establish the original collection. However, it was felt because the community was relatively isolated ‘library wise’ it would be a good idea to provide resources for the adult community members also, which was duly approved.

In 1985 the school resource centre became a depot of the Wudinna Community School Library. In late 1985 an application to the Library Board of South Australia was made requesting the establishment of Karcultaby as a Community School Library in its own right, and in 1987 this was approved. Since the introduction of the automated system Bookmark in 1993, managing the libraries resources has become far more effective and far less onerous.

MANAGEMENT & FUNDING
Funding for the library comes from the Wudinna and Streaky Bay District Council’s as well as the Library Board of South Australia. The Library’s Board of Management consists of an independant Chairperson, two nominees from each of the council’s, the principal, the librarian, one representative from each school council, parents & friends and school staff.

The library interacts with other public libraries through PLAIN (Public Libraries Automated Information Network). This enables the library to borrow resources as requested by patrons.
